100 years ago on April 1 the domestic agricultural machinery industry received the status of one of the strategic directions of economic development of the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic
On April 1, 1921, in pursuance of the resolution of the All-Russian Congress of Soviets on measures to strengthen and develop peasant agriculture The Council of People’s Commissars decided:
1. To recognize agricultural engineering as a matter of extreme national importance.
2. Instruct the People’s Commissariat of Agriculture to determine the types of agricultural machinery to be manufactured within a month, as well as to develop and submit to the Supreme Council of the National Economy a summary of the need for agricultural machinery and implements.
3. Develop as a matter of urgency a master plan for the organization of agricultural machinery on the principle of mass production.
4. Instruct the Supreme Council of the National Economy to concentrate exclusively under the jurisdiction of the Main Directorate for Agricultural Engineering (Glavselmash) the management of all production of agricultural machinery and implements in the country.
The history of domestic agricultural machinery includes many labor feats. The factories made a great contribution to the common cause of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, repurposing production for the needs of the front. After the defeat of Nazi Germany and its allies in an extremely short time, the enterprises again directed all their power to ensure the food security of the USSR.
One of the most difficult tests for the Russian agricultural machinery industry occurred in the 90s and early 2000s, when one after another production was closed, and the market was flooded with imported agricultural machinery. Russia could be left without one of the key industries.
The situation was rectified thanks to effective state support measures developed and launched by the Russian government. Since 2013, Russian factories have demonstrated annual growth in production and export shipments. Hundreds of new models of equipment are produced, and its quality is constantly improving.
According to the Association “Rosspetsmash”, the production of Russian agricultural machinery in 2020 compared to 2019 increased by 29.6% to 149 billion rubles. The share of Russian equipment in the domestic market is currently 58%, which is 4 percentage points more than in 2019.
The volume of exports of products of Russian agricultural machinery plants in 2020 amounted to 15.9 billion rubles, which is 30% more than a year earlier, when a record figure of 12.2 billion rubles was recorded. In total, last year, domestic machines were delivered to agricultural producers from 38 countries.
These results could not have been achieved without the dedicated work of the teams of Russian agricultural machinery plants. The dedication of the employees of the enterprises to their work, the high qualification of the personnel, the use of the most modern equipment in the production allowed us to take a serious step towards the development of the industry. Such a professional approach to business inspires confidence that the domestic agricultural machinery industry will continue its dynamic development for the benefit of Russia.
We sincerely congratulate all those who have made and are making a contribution to the development of the domestic agricultural machinery industry, on the anniversary of the strategically important industry for the country!
